Project Description

A Customer of whom I had done various work for over the years wanted to add new life into their garden decking, they explained to be that it had been replaced 5 years ago and after cleaning and re staining every year it still looked tired. After discussing several options, including a simple softwood replacement which would be the cheapest option, but would not resolve the issue of ongoing maintenance. A hardwood option was looked at which would be more hardwearing but would still require some attention from year to year until we settled upon Composite decking. Minimal maintenance and no wear and tear.

After sourcing some samples of the various product colours the customer settled with the stone grey commercial grade option (due to the availability of that colour)

Work began by removing all the existing softwood decking and lighting, we repaired the existing frame were needed, removed all broken screws ready for new installation.

To help make the frame last as long as the decking itself we covered all the framework with a plastic membrane to prevent the weather rotting the frame. The composite decking is installed with a hidden fixing detail to avoid unsightly screws from the top. All cut edges of board were finished with trim pieces in the same colour of the decking itself.

New commercial grade LED lighting was installed to complete the maintenance free requirement of this decking for the customer.

A FRESH LICK TIP – The benefits of composite decking over wooden alternative Is not only the durability, and maintenance free aspect but they also come in a range of colours that can not be achieved from wood without painting.
